Mini, Normal or Super: which absorbency suits your flow?

Mini, Normal, Super: the names can sound like stages you move through. They describe how much a tampon absorbs. Choose for your flow, not for your age or whether this is your first tampon.

Start with the packaging

Look at the absorbency choices and manufacturer’s instructions. Names can differ between brands. Choose the lowest absorbency that meets your needs, as the FDA’s tampon guidance recommends.

You do not need to use one absorbency throughout your whole period. Notice what suits the current day instead of choosing only by the colour of the pack.

Plan for your day

  • Read the packaging before trying a different product.
  • Have a fresh tampon ready for your next change.
  • Carry another period product too if that gives you more flexibility.
  • If helpful, note when you inserted the tampon. Higher absorbency does not extend its permitted wearing time.

Our wearing-time FAQ answers questions about changing. For bedtime, read Wearing a tampon overnight.

Which sizes fit TAMPiNO?

TAMPiNO is designed for Mini, Normal, Super and Super Plus tampon sizes. Before insertion, load the tampon into the flexible sleeve (Spiralgleiter). Position the flap to suit its size and shape. Find every step in the TAMPiNO instructions.

The applicator’s ten colours are separate from absorbency: they all work in the same way. Choose your TAMPiNO colour by preference and your tampon’s absorbency by your flow.
